What is the MSDL?
The MSDL is the Midwest Snowsports Development League. The mission of the MSDL is to establish guidelines for member teams in the hopes of standardizing competition formats and results and to provide smooth, professionally run events. The MSDL runs two Alpine Leagues a Saturday Alpine League & a Sunday Alpine League, along with a separate Snowboard/Twin Tip League. Mount Ski Gull is a member of the MSDL Saturday Alpine League.
What other hills compete in the MSDL?
Mount Ski Gull is a member of the MSDL Saturday Alpine League. Other members in the Saturday Alpine League include: Afton Alps, Andes Tower Hills, Buck Hill, Coffee Mill, Detroit Mountain, TR2, Mount Kato, Powder Ridge, Tonkawood, Trollhaugen, Welch Village, and Wild Mountain. Due to the size of the league, for each race date the MSDL has multiple hills that are hosting a race that day, and each team is assigned to go to a specific race. Therefore not all of the other hills will be present at the races that Mount Ski Gull will be attending.
So who owns the Alpine Teams?
The Mount Ski Gull Alpine teams are a branch off the programming at Mount Ski Gull. Previously the MSG Alpine Team was it’s own 501(c)3. Last year it was decided that the Alpine Teams mission and values aligned with that of Mount Ski Gull and therefore it made the most sense for the Alpine Team to be run by Mount Ski Gull instead of two separate entities.
Why did the structure of the MSG Alpine Team change?
There are a few reasons why the MSG Alpine Team structure changed this season. First off, we were given the opportunity to be a part of another race league, the MSDL and we felt that it was important to give our racers the option to race against other competition. Another reason that there was a change in the Alpine Team structure is because of growth. The MSG Alpine Team is a strong group of ski racers and we felt that this structure is a step forward in continuing to grow the program for the future.
What is the Competition Only option?
This option was intended for high school skiers who are just interested in racing. Racers who sign up for the competition only option are welcome to compete at any of the twelve race options but there is no practice time included in this option.
If I’m on the Team Ski Gull Alpine, but I miss my practice can I go to the D Team Ski Gull practice?
Unfortunately not, with this structure we want our coaches who are in charge of each team to know the members on their team. So therefore team members of each team are only allowed to go to their specific team’s practice. We are striving to create a team atmosphere for each individual team so that they can grow together as a group.
Do I still need a season pass to Mount Ski Gull?
Yes, all alpine team members will need to have either a season pass to Mount Ski Gull or purchase a lift ticket for each time they are at Mount Ski Gull.
